Former Maidstone schoolboy James Friend wins Oscar for work on Netflix All Quiet On The Western Front

By (Alex Langridge) A former Kent schoolboy picked up his first Oscar last night for his work on a Netflix film. James Friend won the Best Cinematography prize for his role in the anti-war epic All Quiet On The Western Front. The film, which is directed by German filmmaker Edward Berger and is based on the 1929 novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque, also scooped three other Academy Awards.
